(6/19) They started here on weight bearing on the healed ankle. Lord willing she will be in rehab to retrain that leg for about a week, than she should be able to come home, around 6/27. She will then need a week to two weeks to recuperate at home.
We received the motor home back from the repair garage that did a full tune up and its running fine. Lord willing it will go into the conversion shop to have the lift installed 6/26. It is scheduled to take two to three days, if no complications set in. Funds are still about $1200.00 short to complete this project. I still have to make a special bed for her and install a high rise toilet. While we are disappointed that we will have to miss our Kendalville and Indianapolis Fairs we are hopeful that we will be able to pick up our fair schedule with the Columbus, OH fair. We are also please that we have picked up a new fair in New Braunfels, TX in Sept.
Please pray that Virginia continues to make progress and that the new motor home give us good service.

Victory Bible Baptist Church, 620 South St., Vidor, TX that started this project for us is where any funds should be sent.

Missionary of the week

Each week, our church selects one of our missionary families to pray for during the week. Having a son that is a missionary makes me sensitive to how important it is to actually read what the missionaries are saying about things that are happening on their field. They spend alot of money on the stamps, paper, and printing of their prayer letters. More importantly, they are letting you know what your mission dollars are doing. It is a tremendous blessing to find out about each of them. You sort of feel like they are part of your family (which they are). I will be filling you in on the special prayer requests and the needs that they have. It is a my great joy and priviledge to do this.

Mrs Kay Smith - Missions Secretary

Mrs. Kay Smith who is our Missions Secretary at Calvary Baptist Church will be taking over the Missions blog. The children are very excited that they have only five weeks left of school and Zachary is counting the days until it is officially summertime. Though, in England, you are not sure if it ever officially becomes summer! Lisa is now six months pregnant and both she and the baby are doing very well. Her due date is approximately September 20th.
There are several ministries that will be taking place over the next few months that we would like you to pray about. On July 7-9 we will have our first missions conference teaching Faith Promise giving. Layton Kelly and Martin Wickens, who are both British, are missionaries in Ireland. They will be coming and presenting their calling to the church. This will be the first time that the people of our church have ever heard of and been asked to participate in Faith Promise.
After the missions conference our first Vacation Bible School will be held. Presently we have about 15 children attending the Sunday school and they have been regularly bringing visitors with them over several weeks. Pray as we prepare and promote the VBS that the kids coming will be excited and invite their family and friends to come along. The theme is “Exploring our Awesome God”. We are praying that more young people will trust Christ as their Savior.
In early September our first students will attend Trinity Baptist Bible College which we will be starting this fall. We are also sponsoring a Creation seminar at the end of the month. Though these are several months away we do need your continued prayers concerning these ministries. The creation meeting will be targeting those who are not saved and believe in evolution. This is a very hot topic amongst the youth of Great Britain and we are praying many will come and for the first time here the truth about creation and salvation.
We praise the Lord for the work he has done in the hearts of those who have been faithfully attending the services. The young people are so excited about Sunday school and learning about spiritual matters. Philip, Jade and Tiffany, the first young people who accepted Christ, asked their Sunday school teacher if they could be baptised. We are planning our first baptismal service in June. As we do not have a baptismal in the church we will be using the swimming pool of one of the families in our church. Carl, who was saved in March, has continued to come to both services on Sunday. He is a little hesitant on being baptised so we ask that you will pray for him that he will simply be obedient to the Word of God.
With all our hearts we thank you for your support through prayers and finances.
Standing on the Promises,
Steve Messersmith and Family
I Timothy 1:12

Our Missionaries To Mexico: The Christenson's

Conference held in Bro. It was good to make the quick trip to Florida to celebrate Pat's mom's 90th birthday. It was the first time since we were married 28 years ago that everyone plus their spouses were together at the same time. It is also a great privilege to be back and serve in the work of the Lord and His churches here in Mexico. Since being back, besides the regular activities, I have been concentrating on getting materials together for the camp season. Pat and I will be in the state of Chiapas for two camp sessions as well as one-day meetings in seven other churches. That will take care of the "Holy Week" vacation period as it is called here, a two-week school vacation the week before and the week after Easter. Please pray for these meetings from April 9-23.
A special blessing in both Sunday congregations has been several visitors to the services after a long "dry run". From the letters sent out with Julia's help last Summer and Fall, we also continue to receive renewed contacts regularly for the correspondence school [see attached picture], some with amazing testimonies. One man, who never had any formal schooling because he was an orphan, found the "Help from Above" tract in the street in 1997. It may well have been from a trip we made handing out tracts in his area in southern Mexico. Since at the time he could not read, he stopped a man walking behind him and asked the man if he would read the tract to him! He heard the truth of John 14:6 and accepted Christ. He has
taught himself to read and is not only studying the courses himself, but sent in the names of ten others to receive courses. Another young man gave this testimony: "I am a believer in Christ; I have received Him in my heart and the change in my life shows it. I was gay and I left it. I am now married and have children. The power of the Lord changed me."
Two special medical needs have come up for which we would deeply appreciate your prayers. Perhaps someone may want to help financially as the Lord leads. Brother Esteban Encinos is one of the ordained ministers and key leaders in the church work in the state of Chiapas. Besides his pastoral work, he travels quite extensively in the ministry, teaching, counseling, and encouraging many pastors and congregations in at least two different languages. Many years ago he lost one of his legs in an accident but has been restored to mobility with the use of a prosthetic leg. Because of wear and tear it has to be replaced from time to time, although he generally gets a few years' extra service from each unit. He told me a while back that it is time for the prosthesis to be replaced again at a cost of around $3,000.
So that you can get an idea of how expensive that is for him according to his income, it would equivalent to someone in the USA spending $30,000 for the same thing. I'm sure that any help that would come in towards this need would be greatly appreciated.
Attached are pictures of Bro. Esteban (on the right) translating a message being preached from Spanish into the Tzeltal Indian language, and of a conference held in Bro. Esteban's church in Chiapas a couple of years ago. The last weekend of February, Pat had a sudden bout of extremely severe pain which kept her awake all night. The following morning we met with our family doctor who ordered an ultrasound exam which confirmed the suspicion of gall
stones. She was hospitalized for the weekend to take care of the pain. She is presently at home doing well and surgery is scheduled for March 9th to remove her gall bladder. The laparoscopic surgery here will cost about $2,500 which we have been able to borrow.
Our sponsoring church is getting up a new website which we invite you to visit: http://pleasant-valley.baptist-church-online.us
That pretty much brings you up to date on our past, present, and future activities. We are very grateful for your regular prayers and financial support. God has been so good to us through you over many years.

Co-laborers for Christ,

Dave and Pat

Our Missionaries To Tanzania: The Burkholder's

The Burkholder Beacon

March 2006

Dear Praying Partner,

Psalm 68:9 says, “Thou O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.” God has sent rain to the Katesh area and there is a noticeable difference everywhere you look. Whether it be the green grass, the plowed fields, or the smiles of relief on people’s faces, the starting of the rains always brings change. God has brought exciting changes in our ministry as well. Please join us in praise and prayer for what He is doing.

Stepping into the 21st Century- Although we are a few years late, we now feel like we are finally in the 21st century when it comes to communications. Praise the Lord that through the generous giving of special Christmas missions offerings from our home church, Canton Baptist Temple, and other churches, we are now able to have reliable internet and e-mail service. With our new satellite connection, we can also post family and ministry pictures to our new website. Check out www.burkholdersonline.com for prayer items and photos. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness to us during the first year of this new ministry. It has not been easy, but we have seen God’s blessing. The highlight looking back over the last year was the 25 souls who were saved through this ministry. In January, the church started two new ministries. One is a Bible class in the local government high school. We have seen some of these young people come to our Sunday night youth service. The other new ministry is to a local government-run orphanage. Once a week we go to the orphanage to play games, sing songs, and teach a memory verse and Bible lesson for the kids. Many of these children have also started coming to Sunday School at the church. Please pray for the Katesh church and for these two new ministries that were started.

Truth Center Ground Breaking- Work has begun at the new ministry center which we have decided to call “Truth Center.” It will be home to the Katesh local church, youth center, playground, and nursery school. We have now started Stage 1 of the construction, which consists of clearing and leveling the land, piping in water to the location, and building a perimeter fence. Please pray for this work and also how God would have you to become involved.

Everlasting Water- We are continuing to partner with Lance Whyle (Natalie’s dad) using the water well ministry as a tool for evangelism and church planting. In June we plan to drill for water in the villages of Simbay and Gidika. Both of these villages have raised their portions of the funds for a hand pump. Please pray for these projects and for the thousands of villagers who need not only clean drinking water, but the Everlasting Water of salvation through Christ.

Furlough Reminder- We are now planning meetings for our upcoming furlough which is tentatively scheduled for August 2006 through February 2007. Beatty and Church Family,

We received the wonderful $500 love offering for the children's camp
today! Thank you very, very , very much! The timing has been absolutely
perfect! It was a great source of encouragement and joy to hear about
your decision to help out with this need! The camp will begin on Sunday,
and we still have many details that must be done at the last minute, so
please pray that the Lord would give us strength, wisdom and clarity of
mind during the next two weeks!

We are very excited about getting to tell the campers about how this camp
was made possible because of a church in New Braunfels, Texas who loves
the Lord and loves them and sacrificed so that they could have this week
of spiritual and physical nourishment! I wish that you could see the
excitement that these children and even the monitors have been showing
about getting to go to this camp! What a joy it is to serve the Lord!!!
I believe that Calvary is going to become a very special church to our
churches here in Ivory Coast! Could you e-mail us a picture of you and
the church? We would like to show it to the kids as we share with them
what the Lord has done through you.

Thank you once again and we pray that the Lord will bless you many times
over for this investment in his work! We love you and praise the Lord
for you!

Your Friends and Ambassadors to the Ivory Coast,

Randy and Tonya Smith

___
